Luxury Family Holidays in Mauritus

Beautiful beaches, brilliant family hotels and plenty to discover beyond the resort.

Mauritius is somewhere I know particularly well. I have visited three times with my own family, exploring different parts of the island and visiting many of its family resorts.

It is one of my favourite destinations for an easy luxury family holiday. The beaches are beautiful, the hotels really understand families and there is enough to see and do when you want a break from the pool. Think fantastic kids' clubs, warm Indian Ocean seas, watersports, great food and some genuinely lovely family accommodation.

why Mauritius?

Mauritius makes family holidays wonderfully easy. The best resorts have excellent kids' clubs, babysitting, family rooms and suites, children's menus and a huge choice of activities.

It also works across different ages. Little ones are incredibly well catered for, while older children and teenagers can spend their days paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkelling, sailing or waterskiing.

And importantly, you do not have to stay within your resort. There is enough culture, nature and adventure to make exploring the island worthwhile.

Where to Stay

Mauritius is relatively small, but choosing the right coast can make a big difference to your holiday.

North

Lively and easy, particularly around Grand Baie. Great if you like restaurants, shops and somewhere to explore outside your hotel.

West
Beautiful sunsets, generally calmer conditions and a great base for exploring. I particularly like the west during the Mauritian winter.

East
Home to some of the island's most luxurious resorts and spectacular beaches. Ideal if the hotel itself is a big part of the holiday.

South
Wilder, greener and quieter, with dramatic scenery and nature reserves. Perfect if you want somewhere more peaceful.

Beyond the Beach

I would always recommend leaving the resort at least once or twice.

Head south to see the waterfalls and extraordinary Seven Coloured Earth at Chamarel, wander through the colourful markets of Port Louis, visit the tropical gardens at Pamplemousses or spend a day out on the Indian Ocean.

For more adventurous families, there is hiking, zip-lining, snorkelling, kayaking and plenty of watersports.

Visit La Vanille Nature Park. The hundreds of giant Aldabra tortoises were a huge hit with my family and it is one of those experiences children tend to remember.

When to go

Mauritius works for families almost year-round, but choosing the right coast for your dates is important.

October to December is one of my favourite periods, with warm weather and beautiful sea temperatures. January to March is hotter and more humid, with a greater chance of tropical rain.

April and May can be lovely, while June to September is cooler and drier. During the British summer holidays, I often favour the north or west, as the east and south can be windier.

This is one of those details I always consider before recommending a hotel.

Your Mauritius holiday, designed around your family

The right Mauritius hotel depends on much more than its star rating.

Perhaps you need a brilliant kids' club, a proper two-bedroom suite or enough watersports to keep teenagers busy. Maybe your priority is simply a beautiful beach, excellent food and somewhere everyone can switch off.

Having travelled around Mauritius with my own family and visited many of its hotels, I can help you choose the part of the island, resort and room type that genuinely suits you.

We take care of the flights, accommodation, private transfers and experiences, along with all the smaller details that make family travel easier.
